Coloradoans across the state will rally to ‘step up’ climate change awareness this Saturday. In the Denver area, dozens of congregations will join together for a rally called “People of Faith Step It Up.” The Reverend Peter Sawtell with Eco-Justice Ministries says dealing with global warming is an issue for people from all faiths.

"We as humans are part of the global web of life, part of God’s creation, we have an obligation to care for all of the life on the planet. We are certainly lifting up the visibility of faith communities as a group that is deeply concerned about climate change."

Over 30 events are planned for the first National Day of Climate Action, including a free music festival at Copper Mountain featuring eco-conscious musicians like Michael Franti and Spearhead. Beth Orstad with the High Country Conservation Center says a ski area is the perfect place to make the point about global warming.

"We’re going to be dressed as snow fairies to kind of show people that we love snow up here and we want to save it."

Colorado’s ski areas have seen an increase in winter temperatures in recent decades. Most scientists agree that humans contribute to global warming and that major changes need to be made soon to preserve our climate.

Over 1,300 "Step It Up" events are planned in all fifty states. To the find the one nearest you, visit online at www.stepitup07.org.
