Nuevo México - Aunque las boletas electorales son secretas, no hay porque sentirse solos durante el día de elecciones en Nuevo México. Como se espera un número record de electores registrados y largas líneas para votar, existe bastante ayuda para los votantes que tienen preguntas y preocupaciones.

Steve Allen junto con su organización Causa Común (Common Cause), serán un organismo de observación y control durante las elecciones. Aconseja que el mejor lugar por donde empezar es llamando al teléfono especialmente designado para responder a las preguntas de los votantes 1-866-OUR-VOTE ("nuestro voto," 687-8683).

"Todos pueden llamar a esa línea y al otro lado se encontrarán con un especialista legal que puede contestar cualquier tipo de pregunta relacionada con las elecciones desde algo simple como '¿Estoy registrado para votar?' hasta '¿A dónde voy para votar?' y detalles acerca de la identificación que se requiere para votar."

Allen dice que las leyes en Nuevo México prohíben a los electores presentarse con playeras, botones o cualquier otro material relacionado con las campañas electorales.

"Los trabajadores de las urnas han sido instruidos a ser cordiales acerca de esto pero tendrán que pedir al individuo a cubrir o voltear la playera, así que es mejor evitarlo por completo."

Él dice que la ayuda también será disponible en persona en las urnas en varios condados de Nuevo México incluyendo a Bernalillo, Sandoval, Santa Fe y Dona Ana. Busquen a personas con playeras negras con las palabras "Election Protection" que significa "Protección Electoral."
