Albuquerque – Es la semana nacional de la educación y una coalición de educadores de Nuevo México dan el mensaje que la educación no puede ser impartida con poco dinero. Darán comienzo a su campaña para que las escuelas reciban los fondos suficientes con un rally hoy miércoles en la rotunda de la capital del estado.

La Presidenta del Capítulo en Nuevo México de la National Education Asociation (Asociación Nacional de Educación), Sharon Morgan dice que más de veinte distritos en el estado actualmente reciben fondos de emergencia, y los distritos más grandes como el de Albuquerque también están teniendo problemas de financiación. Ella dice que esto ha creado escasez de todo tipo de materiales didácticos desde libros de texto hasta cartuchos de tinta, pero eso no lo es todo.

"Pero más que nada significa que no tenemos los programas, no tenemos orientación psicológica que en muchos casos los niños necesitan. No tenemos suficientes maestros de arte y música y educación física, y nuestros niños merecen todo esto."

También dice Morgan que durante tiempos problemáticos los legisladores necesitan hacer la educación su prioridad.

"Necesitamos invertir en nuestros hijos e invertir en nuestro futuro al invertir en las escuelas públicas y proveer el dinero que nuestras escuelas necesitan."

Morgan menciona que la constitución del estado provee para que las escuelas reciban fondos suficientes y necesarios para las escuelas públicas y quiere ver que la legislatura estatal se comprometa a incrementar los fondos escolares a un 15 por ciento. Algunos legisladores dicen que parece un incremento muy grande con la manera en la que se está recortando el presupuesto. El rally comenzará al medio día, entre juntas legislativas de educación y del comité de finanzas. La semana nacional de la educación continúa a través de la nación y el resto del estado esta semana.
