BOZEMAN, Mont. - A documentary featuring several years' worth of images that offer a window into how climate change is affecting landscapes is showing Thursday in Bozeman, and some Bozeman High School students are hoping for a packed house. The film "Chasing Ice" showcases three years of time-lapse images of remote locations.

Maddy Ekey, co-president of the Sustainability Club at Bozeman High, said she's got questions about what it all means for Montana.

"We're interested in climate change," she said. "You can't really talk about it in the school because it's too controversial."

Cameras were set up in Iceland and other northern zones to take time-lapse images of melting glaciers, and the filmmakers even caught a glacier breaking up.

According to event organizer Kate Wright, the film features fabulous landscapes and back-country skiing, too. The high-risk adventures to capture the images are part of the appeal for young people.

"The next generation is deeply concerned," Wright remarked. "Forgetting politics, they just want to know what people are seeing around the world and what's happening here in Montana."

"Chasing Ice" director James Orlowski will speak at the screenings and field questions.

Montana Conservation Voters Education Fund and several other organizations are sponsoring the showing twice (4:30 and 7:30 p.m. at Emerson Center's Crawford Theatre). Admission is free to those under 18 at the matinee.
