ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Some Michigan moms say they've had enough of lockdown drills and headlines about campus shootings, so they're taking action as a group in hopes of being part of the solution to America's gun-violence problem.

At this point, said Kristen Moore, Ann Arbor Ambassador for the Michigan chapter of "Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense in America," no one is immune to the effects of gun violence.

"I think we all think a little bit differently when we're in a movie theater, in a mall," she said, "I know that when I teach in my classroom, when I hear loud noises in the classroom, I stop and listen much more carefully than I used to."

The group held its inaugural event this week, a screening and panel discussion of the documentary "Trigger: The Ripple Effect Of Gun Violence." A rally in support of stronger background checks is planned for May 14.

Much like Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Moore said, the group hopes to be an agent of change when it comes to gun laws. Moms Demand Action was formed the day after the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

"I think that's when we said, 'Enough. Something has to change.' And I think moms are going to be tenacious about this," Moore said.

The group recently merged with Mayors Against Illegal Guns to form a larger coalition called "Everytown for Gun Safety" and was instrumental in getting social media giant Facebook to block minors from seeing posts of gun sales.
