Organizations in North Carolina are stepping up to make data more accessible for those in need. Kate B. Reynolds, together with the North Carolina Institute for Public Health and Community Data and grassroots organizations, has developed a data resource library to support nonprofits working towards positive health outcomes.

Carla Norwood, executive director of Working Landscapes, said it's something that they can use to impact their work in food access.

"Having access to data through the Data Resource Library can simplify the process of accessing and using information at scales that are relevant to the communities that we're working in, " Norwood said.

Norwood noted that finding data on racial or poverty disparities in systems and outcomes can be challenging, and said the Data Resource Library streamlines this process and helps them in create solutions to address such issues.

Norwood's organization works to help foster sustainable livelihoods in Warren County through initiatives that promote local food systems, revitalize small towns and address climate change. She said the data resource library also helps them shed light on unexplored needs within her community.

"And those gaps might be in geography or they might be what types of folks are currently being served or not served by programs or resources, " she continued.

The library offers a range of tools, including data-collection resources, reports and dashboards, centered around topics such as rural health, food systems and adverse childhood experiences.
