Attention Candidates: Ohio's Health Care System Needs Help

Columbus, OH – More than one million Ohioans are going without medical insurance, and consumer healthcare advocates are pushing for serious talk about how to make health coverage affordable, continuous, and high quality. They're convinced that the major political parties' conventions present the perfect opportunity to raise the topic of how to fix Ohio's healthcare system - and perhaps even get some answers.

Col Owens, with the group Ohio Consumers for Health Coverage, attended the Democratic National Convention in Denver last week, and says he liked what he heard. Now, he's turning his ear to the current Republican National Convention.

"During the Republican Convention, we'll be listening very carefully to the expressions of concern, and specifically to the amount of priority that's going to be put on healthcare reform."

Owens says those running for office need to be aware that Ohioans are tired of waiting for relief from skyrocketing healthcare costs and, in some cases, a lack of access to care.

"We're going to be dealing with candidates, seeking answers from them as to what they think about the priority status and ideas they have for healthcare reform."

Owens and other advocates want to unify voters through the "Fix it Now!" campaign. Its premise is to make sure that healthcare reform is an important issue during the presidential transition, and that solutions be negotiated by all, no matter who wins.

More information about the "Fix It Now!" campaign can be found online, at www.ohioconsumers.org
