California – Mientras el Mercado de valores cae y los fondos para el retiro disminuyen; no es tiempo de dejar el dinero botado sobre la mesa. Eso es lo que están haciendo exactamente un medio millón de californianos que aún no han mandado su aplicación para el rebate del estímulo económico. Con la fecha límite siendo este 15 de Octubre, veteranos y jubilados están a días de perderse de este dinero, según Charee Gillins del AARP de California quien dice que la mayoría son personas mayores de los 65 años.

"Ya sabemos que gente mayor está sintiendo el golpe de la economía, es por esta razón que estamos sacando este mensaje que aún existe tiempo para meter aplicación para el estímulo. Este es dinero que les pertenece a esta gente, simplemente no saben como obtenerlo."

Gillins dice que las personas que se están perdiendo de esta oportunidad son aquellos que no han declarado sus impuestos, pero son elegibles para el rebate porque en el 2007 recibieron por lo menos $3,000 en Seguro Social, en beneficios para veteranos o como sueldo ganado. Comenta Gillins que muchos de ellos no están acostumbrados a lidiar con los documentos de impuestos o son escépticos.

"Muchos de estos individuos no han declarado sus impuestos en años. Muchos de ellos son incrédulos y muchos otros no saben que son elegibles."

El departamento del IRS recuerda a las personas jubiladas y a los veteranos discapacitados que el dinero del estímulo económico no afectará su elegibilidad para Medi-Cal, Medicaid u otros programas federales. Tampoco será contado en su contra como saldo o que tengan que declarar impuestos futuros. Para más información visite www.aarp.org
