Oficial Veterano Fronterizo Apoya Ley de Protección de Doña Ana

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Un veterano de tercera generación en la Patrulla Fronteriza recientemente visitó Nuevo México para dar un tour aéreo sobre las áreas en la frontera que se proponen designar como protegidas, incluyendo a las Montañas Organ. Algunos oponentes de esta cuenta de ley que se encuentra bajo discusión en el Senado, dicen que se preocupan del impacto que tendrá en la seguridad nacional al limitar el acceso a la patrulla fronteriza a estas zonas. Pero Ron Colburn, Jefe Principal jubilado de la Patrulla Fronteriza dice que los cambios recientes a la cuenta de ley otorgan más acceso a oficiales y a la patrulla fronteriza. Estos cambios han satisfecho sus preocupaciones.

"Esto es un buen ejemplo sobre como uno puede proteger a nuestro país, a nuestra frontera y al mismo tiempo estar protegiendo estas zonas públicas silvestres."

Colburn añade que el lenguaje en la cuenta de ley le da a la Patrulla Fronteriza el acceso necesario para ciertas zonas.

"Para poder proveer el personal adecuado de agentes, oficiales en patrullas, infraestructura de seguridad ya sea bardas o bloques además de tecnología fronteriza."

Dice Colburn que ha hablado con sus colegas en la Patrulla Fronteriza sobre esta ley.

"Y ellos me dicen que con el lenguaje dentro de la cuenta de ley se sienten satisfechos que podrán continuar desarrollando y utilizando sus recursos para asegurar al país y mejorar la seguridad de la frontera."

La Cuenta de Ley Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks crearía más de 300,000 acres de Áreas Nacionales Protegidas incluyendo a las Montañas Organ y Robledo y partes del Cañón Broad. A principios del verano dicha cuenta de ley fue modificada para añadir más seguridad y permitir a las patrullas acceso a una distancia de 5 millas de la frontera.
