Durante el mes de noviembre, 1.9 millón veteranos de California podrán participar en el Driver Safety Program (Programa de Seguridad para el Conductor, totalmente gratis y sin distingo de edad, o si están en servicio activo o en retiro. El costo de este esfuerzo es patrocinado por la AARP California; Christina Clem, vocera de la organización, comenta que como beneficio adicional, los participantes pudieran ser sujetos de un descuento en su seguro de auto una vez que hayan terminado el curso.

"Los autos han cambiado desde que sacamos nuestra primera licencia de conducir. Y también las reglas de tránsito y las condiciones de manejo. Así que el curso AARP Driver Safety enseña valiosas técnicas defensivas de manejo y brinda una actualización de las reglas del camino."

Desde 1979, el programa de manejo seguro ha ayudado a que más de 13 millones de conductores aprendan estrategias y se adapten a los cambios físicos y cognitivos que llegan con la edad. En honor al Día del Veterano, y como reconocimiento a su dedicación y compromiso en servicio, el curso se ofrece gratis a todo el personal militar por primera vez este año.

Clem confirma que muchos participantes dicen que se sienten más seguros al volante luego de haber tomado el curso.

"Dicen que realmente salen del curso con una nueva perspectiva y sintiendo que están aprendiendo y mejor preparados para lo que les espera en el camino mientras su edad avanza."

Las clases se dan en las comunidades por todo California, pero el tamaño de los grupos es limitado, así que se recomienda que los interesados se inscriban cuanto antes.
