ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Una marcha organizada en la Ciudad de Duke para el viernes es parte de un Día Nacional De Acción que se celebrará desde Bangor, Maine, hasta San Diego, Calif. Marca el segundo aniversario de la decisión "Citizens United" por parte de la Corte Suprema de los Estados Unidos y lo que ha representado. La decisión ha generado más de cientos de retos por parte de agrupaciones políticas locales en contra de la idea de que corporaciones tienen el mismo derecho a libertad de expresión que los individuos.

Para muchos, los eventos son parte de un esfuerzo para enmendar la Constitución - algo que Peter Simonson director ejecutivo con la American Civil Liberties Union (Unión Americana de Libertades Civiles) de Nuevo México opina es peligroso.

"Cuando se habla de enmendar la Constitución, es una incursión peligrosa - pero aún más cuando estamos hablando sobre enmendar el derecho más importante para los ciudadanos que es el de la libertad de expresión."

Simonson preferiría ver otras soluciones en respuesta a los efectos de "Citizens United." Una solución que sugiere es la de implementar un programa de financiación pública en lugar de campañas políticas.

Mientras que Simonson reconoce que es preocupante la influencia del dinero de las corporaciones en el sistema electoral, y él apoya otros métodos para atenderlo.

"Podemos sugerir que se requiera que se revelen de quien provienen las contribuciones. Existen maneras para expandir los descuidos de comunicaciones masivas."

Tom Dent, coordinador del evento para el día de acción "Occupy the Courts" en Albuquerque dice que la marcha y rally frente a la corte federal es parte del esfuerzo para educar al público.

"Este es el comienzo de esfuerzos a nivel local, y planeamos trabajar con los consejeros estatales para poder aprobar una resolución local."

Dice que existen esfuerzos adicionales para convencer a los miembros de la legislatura de Nuevo México para que consideren una resolución similar que oponga la decisión de "Citizens United."

La marcha de Nuevo México llamada "Occupy the Courts/Move to Amend" comienza el 20 de enero en el Parque Robinson a las 11:30 a.m., y termina con un rally en la Corte Federal Pete Domenici. Las actividades terminan a las 3 p.m.
