DES MOINES, Iowa - La Affordable Care Act (Ley del Cuidado Accesible) entra en vigor por etapas, y a la más reciente se le está considerando un hito en el cuidado a la salud de las mujeres. Las que tienen planes de seguro nuevos podrán tener acceso a servicios de control de la natalidad y de embarazo sin pagos adicionales.

Para las mujeres, la Affordable Care Act (Ley del Cuidado Accesible) puede ser el mayor avance de toda una generación en materia de salud femenina. Tracy Durbin, vocera de Paternidad Planteada de Heartland) expone ese punto de vista, porque al inicio de este mes las mujeres con pólizas de seguro pueden recibir el cuidado preventivo “Well Woman” sin costo adicional. Dice que eso seguramente ayudará a los presupuestos familiares apretados.

“Van a poder acceder a esto ya sin tener que cooperar a los costos. Eso significa que no tendrán que pagar un coaseguro por ir a hacerse sus exámenes de mujer, no tendrán que cubrir el co-pago ni el co-aseguro para que les hagan una mamografía.”

Durbin dice que debido al gasto, muchas mujeres dejan de lado su atención médica.

“Primero se concentran en sus familias, se enfocan primero en sus hijos, y si les va a costar 40 ó 50 dólares ir a que les hagan un Papanicolau, lo dejan para después o de plano no van.”

Los servicios completos sin extra-pago incluyen escaneo para detectar cáncer, escaneos pre natales, ayuda para amamantar y provisiones para el control natal. Dice que las mujeres que cuenten con cobertura recibirán servicios adicionales sin extra-pagos durante el próximo año.
