CASPER, Wyo. - Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday - and a break from shopping on Tuesday, for "Hashtag Giving Tuesday" (#GivingTuesday). It's a social media-focused event, mostly on Twitter, where people are asked to donate money, services or time to charities.

United Way of Laramie County is a partner in the project. Aaron Sherinian, vice president for public relations for the U.N. Foundation, one of the founding organizations, says they have high hopes for it to be an annual event.

"This is a country of generous people. Generosity is in our hearts, so why shouldn't it be on the calendar?"

Organizers say more than 1,000 groups are promoting the #GivingTuesday concept. Businesses are promoting it, too, and Sherinian is expecting #GivingTuesday to "go viral."

"We give really well. We mobilize very well. Let's use a social media reality and let's help make sure it's on the minds and the tongues - and probably more importantly, in the tweets and on the keyboards - of everyone we know."

Dog is My Co-Pilot is another Wyoming organization involved.
