LAS VEGAS – Organizers of a poker run in Las Vegas on Saturday are hoping to to raise money to build a Fisher House guesthouse for military veterans and their families.

The Inaugural Spotlight Poker Run is for vehicles, not for runners.

Karen Estabrook, secretary of the Nevada Veterans Foundation, says Fisher House provides a home away from home for current and former veterans and their loved ones receiving needed health care at the VA Hospital Medical Center and Nellis Air Force base in North Las Vegas.

"The Fisher Houses is where family members and the veteran can stay for free at a guest house,” she explains. “So it's the military version of a Ronald McDonald House. "

Estabrook is hoping the poker run raises $5,000. She says the long-term goal is to raise $3 million and open the Fisher House within the next couple of years.

Estabrook says the 80-mile long poker run promises to be a good time.

"There will be free food and beverages at most of the stops,” she points out. “We also have door prizes for participants and we will have a 50-50 drawing."

The Poker Run will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Red Rock Harley-Davidson at 2260 South Rainbow Boulevard.

Participants will travel to five destinations and build a poker hand in the process.

The top prize is $500 and all vehicles are welcome to participate.
