LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – As the nation's population ages, more folks are realizing there's a lot of life after navigating adulthood and their careers.

Consumer health expert Janet Taylor is part of AARP's Life Reimagined project. She explains there's been a steady shift over the years as more people are determined to seek out meaningful life changes in their older years, from career to health to relationships.

"In fact the sentiment is that at 50-plus, 60-plus, 70-plus, we're not done yet in terms of realizing our passion and our purpose, and how to incorporate more of that into our daily lives," says Taylor.

To help those seeking change spark some ideas about what they want to accomplish, Taylor will joined Dr. Bill Thomas on Wed., May 21, at the Second Wind Tour, a free event at Minglewood Hall in Memphis, Tenn.

Taylor describes the production as fast-paced, using a unique blend of live theater, video, and live music to challenge the conventional narrative of decline in midlife and beyond.

"You can come and get information and inspiration," says Taylor. "There's music. There's a movie. It's nonfiction theater, but really meant to inspire you."

AARP Arkansas is encouraging Arkansans to attend the Memphis event.

AARP Arkansas State Director Maria Reynolds-Diaz has spoken with people who have caught the show at other stops, and says they come back feeling energized and inspired about moving into a new phase of life.

"It encourages people to start where they are, and see where the possibilities can lead them. And people have said that this experience is a gift," says Reynolds-Diaz.

Life doesn't come with instructions, she adds, and notes there are still plenty of opportunities after adulthood.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the nation's population over age 65 will nearly double by the year 2050 as the baby boomer generation reaches that milestone.
