Albuquerque, NM - Sea la economía, energía o el medioambiente, últimamente la palabra "crisis" parece ser la norma. Al menos un hombre ofrece soluciones viables en un evento la noche del 18 de septiembre en la Universidad de Nuevo México. Su nombre es Arjun Makhijani y es el Presidente del Institute for Energy and Environmental Research (Instituto de Investigaciones de Energía y Medioambiente) y autor reconocido a nivel nacional. Él presentará su "mapa" para salir de la crisis de energía a través de un plan que reformaría las leyes de energía sin tener que depender de la nuclear o la de carbón.

Makhijani autor del libro "Carbon-Free and Nuclear-Free: A Roadmap for U.S. Energy Policy" ("Libres de Energía Nuclear y de Carbón: Un Mapa para las Leyes de Energía de los EE.UU.") dice que es importante hacer enfoque en eficiencia energética y los recursos de energía renovables como la eólica y la solar. Su mapa hace un llamado hacia redes de suministro "inteligentes" que pueden guardar energía proveniente de recursos renovables cuando el viento no esté soplando o cuando el sol no esté alumbrando. También dice que su plan esta diseñado para ser aplicado en las próximas tres o cuatro décadas, y Nuevo México está en una muy buena posición para ser líder en este plan.

"Los Estados Unidos son un paraíso de recursos de energía renovable, incluyendo a Nuevo México. Este estado tiene energía solar y eólica en abundancia. Podemos lograrlo a un costo razonable. Yo pienso que a la larga estaríamos pagando un poco menos por energía de lo que pagamos ahora si es que hiciéramos las cosas bien."

Makhijani dice que con todos los problemas alrededor de los combustibles fósiles, desde la seguridad nacional hasta el calentamiento global, no podemos correr el riesgo de ignorar nuestra adicción al petróleo.

Está presentación es gratuita y abierta al público el Jueves 18 de septiembre comenzando a las 6 p.m. en la University of New Mexico Law School (Escuela de Leyes de la Universidad de Nuevo México) en Albuquerque.
