Crece la Economía Limpia de Nuevo México

SANTA FE, N.M. – Un nuevo reporte de la Brookings Institution (Institución Brookings) encontró que Nuevo México ocupa el lugar 36 entre los 50 estados respecto a su economía limpia. El término "economía limpia" involucra la producción de productos limpios como turbinas movidas por aire, paneles solares, y los servicios que requieren esas industrias.

Nuevo México ha avanzado desde casi no tener empleos, servicios o productos de economía limpia, hasta casi 18,000 empleos en esa área. Los salarios promedio para esos puestos superan los $39,000 anuales.

Jason Marks, New Mexico Public Regulation Comissioner (Comisionado de Normatividad Pública para Nuevo México), declara que el estado es un campo de primera para aprovechar el cambio a una economía limpia.

"Tenemos la bendición de contar con los mejores recursos de sol y viento de los Estados Unidos, así que tenemos los recursos para migrar hacia algo que es sustentable a largo plazo."

Marks afirma que al revisar el pasado podemos ver que en 2006 casi no había empresas proveedoras de turbinas de viento, paneles solares o servicios limpios para esas industrias, pero que dede entonces el clima de negocios de Nuevo México ha cambiado.

"Si hoy abres las páginas amarillas, andas por la ciudad o navegas por la red y te fijas, encontrarás bastantes empresas que hacen este tipo de trabajo, muchas de las cuales han surgido desde 2006."

Marks lanza un llamado a quienes definen las políticas federales, como el Secretario del Interior Salazar, para que apoyen la transición hacia una economía de energía limpia en las tierras públicas, privadas y tribales de Nuevo México.
