ST. PAUL, Minn. - You likely know where the presidential candidates stand on the economy and foreign policy, but do you know their views when it comes to the fight against cancer? The disease is the number-one killer in Minnesota, so Matt Schafer with the American Cancer Society says they've researched the candidates' stances.

"We know that President Obama lost his mother to cancer. We know that Governor Romney's wife is a survivor. Really 'cancer votes' has turned into an opportunity where we can talk to our candidates about what they're going to do to help us to fight cancer if they're elected."

You can see how President Obama and challenger Mitt Romney answered their questionnaires at cancervotes.org.

The American Cancer Society also sought out information from some state-level candidates.

"What are they going to do help us continue funding important programs such as the SAGE program, which provides breast and cervical cancer screenings to uninsured and under-insured women across our state? Protecting Minnesota's smoke-free law that the American Cancer Society and others worked so hard to pass, and passing legislation that reduces youth access to tobacco, among other things?"

In Minnesota, the analysis includes a look at those seeking office in District 49.

"Which includes Edina, parts of Bloomington, Minnetonka and Eden Prairie, and we talked to the local candidates both in the Senate race and both House races. Three of the six have filled out the questionnaires there and we're working on getting answers from the other three."

Every day in Minnesota, 76 people are newly diagnosed with cancer.
