Los candidatos a gobernador de Kentucky han recaudado más de $44 millones en contribuciones, según un nuevo análisis de OpenSecrets, una organización sin fines de lucro que rastrea el dinero en la política.

El auge de la recaudación de fondos ha establecido un nuevo récord en el estado. La directora editorial y de investigaciones de OpenSecrets, Anna Massoglia, dice que tanto el actual gobernador demócrata Andy Beshear como su oponente republicano, el fiscal general Daniel Cameron, recibieron dinero de comités de acción política o "PACs".

"No son necesariamente solo los grupos los que tradicionalmente se centran en la política de Kentucky. Hemos visto algunos PACs que están a nivel estatal, analizando empresas estatales, esas cosas. Pero también estamos viendo que esta carrera está en gran medida en el radar nacional. Y eso contribuyó a la cantidad de dinero que se invirtió y realmente aumentó el total de recaudación de fondos," insistió Massoglia.

El gasto masivo también se ha destinado a anuncios políticos. Planned Parenthood Action Kentucky, un PAC financiado en gran medida por el brazo político de la organización nacional de Planned Parenthood, lanzó una campaña publicitaria de seis cifras atacando a Cameron por su postura contra el derecho al aborto. El School Freedom Fund, un súper PAC aliado con el conservador Club For Growth, ha publicado anuncios criticando la decisión de Beshear de liberar a las personas encarceladas al comienzo de la pandemia.

Massoglia señala que Beshear mantiene una gran ventaja en efectivo sobre Cameron.

"Actualmente ha recaudado más de $23.1 millones, y más de 15 millones de ellos son para las elecciones generales," analizó también Massoglia.

El candidato republicano Daniel Cameron ha recaudado alrededor de $4.7 millones para las elecciones generales. La recaudación total de fondos de su campaña en este ciclo ha superado los $6.5 millones, según documentos financieros de campaña.
