As Hunger Action Month continues, measures are being taken across North Carolina to tackle food insecurity. This Saturday in Raleigh, organizations are holding an event to bring residents face-to-face with resources aimed at addressing food access, health and personal finance.

Emily Nail, executive director of the Coastal Credit Union Foundation, said the "Community Bank Better Day" represents a proactive response to some of the area's most daunting challenges.

"We're partnering with Weaver Street Market, which is a food cooperative who supports access to resources on food security. Same with Ripe for Revival - as a grantee, they are also providing fresh local produce, protein, milk, and eggs at a pay-what-you-can model," she explained.

Food insecurity affects more than one in 10 people in North Carolina, including 394,000 children. Nail said the American Cancer Society will also provide resources and interactive stations on the importance of cancer prevention and healthy living.

While addressing hunger is a key focus, the event will also tackle broader financial issues. A National WalletHub study ranks North Carolina eighth on the list of "most financially distressed states," as many families struggle to manage expenses. Nail added that the Coastal Credit Union will offer resources to help people build stronger financial foundations.

"Being a cooperative, we have that concern for community and want to give back. So, we are focused on making sure that especially our communities with modest means have access to the things that they need, and the things that will make their lives better," she continued.

"Community Bank Better Day" will take place at Weaver Street Market on West Hargett Street in Raleigh, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. this Saturday.
