La organización Out Nebraska organiza un evento no solo para recaudar fondos para las personas LGBTQ+, sino también para ayudar a las personas a comprender mejor estos problemas y su importancia en la comunidad.

El Classy-Tacky Ball es una actividad para reunir amigos tanto como lo es para recaudar fondos. Out Nebraska se centra en la defensa, educación y la celebración.

Su directora ejecutiva, Abbi Swatsworth, afirma que el grupo ve el evento como una oportunidad para ayudar a los miembros de la comunidad a ser mejores aliados de las personas LGBTQ+ y enseñarles a participar cívicamente.

"Ya sea a través del voluntariado en juntas o comisiones, votando en elecciones, cómo contactar a los responsables políticos o cómo hablar con la junta escolar local. Ese tipo de cosas," expresó Swatsworth.

El evento está programado para el 5 de abril en Lincoln.

Swatsworth agrega que los esfuerzos también incluyen hablar donde las voces LGBTQ+ generalmente no se han escuchado, y dice que hay muchas formas en que las personas pueden involucrarse.

"Y eso podría parecerse a la banca telefónica o a ayudar a reclutar a otros voluntarios, o a ayudar a los miembros de la comunidad a conectarse con sus funcionarios electos," insistió también la entrevistada.

Para aquellos que no se sienten cómodos acercándose o estando en público, Swatsworth dice que Out Nebraska también necesita personas que ingresen datos, ordenen la oficina y ayuden a dotar de personal los eventos del Orgullo programados en todo el estado este verano.
