Exhibición sobre la Frontera enfocada en la “División de la Vida Silvestre”

Las Cruces, NM – Correr hacia la frontera es algo un poco difícil estos días –no solo para los humanos, si no que también para la vida silvestre que vive en la frontera. Esa es la realidad desde la reciente construcción de la controversial barda fronteriza, la cual también es uno de los temas de una exposición fotográfica cuya exhibición se inaugura hoy en Nuevo México.

Kevin Bixby dirige el Southwest Environmental Center (Centro Medioambiental del Suroeste) en Las Cruces, centro anfitrión de dicha exposición, y dice que la barda ha tenido efectos devastadores en muchas de las especies de vida silvestre que usualmente van de un lado al otro.

"Para poder tener acceso a comida, agua, con quien aparearse y todos los recursos que necesitan para sobrevivir."

Bixby menciona que la exhibición tiene la intención de conectar a la gente con el ambiente de la frontera y sus comunidades.

"El propósito fue el de documentar la biodiversidad natural y la belleza del ambiente y sus habitantes, así como el de fotografiar la barda fronteriza, sus caminos relacionados, su infraestructura y el impacto que están teniendo en esa región."

También resaltó Bixby que la exhibición incluye fotos de una manada de bisontes poco conocida que vive en la frontera en la parte sur de Nuevo México. La exhibición llamada "División Continental – Vida Silvestre de la Frontera, su Gente y la Barda" ofrece fotografías de la Liga Internacional de Fotógrafos por la Conservación.

El Secure Fence Act pasado por el Congreso en el 2006 mandó a construir 670 millas de barreras para peatones y vehículos dividiendo a los Estados Unidos de México. Este proyecto está casi por terminar de ser construido.
