Hoy es el Día Nacional de Reclutamiento Electoral, y las oficinas electorales de los condados en todo California están contratando personal. El evento fue establecido por la Comisión de Asistencia Electoral en 2020 para combatir la escasez de trabajadores electorales.

Kim Alexander, de California Voter Foundation, dice que hay varias maneras de participar.

"Si vas en linea a HelpAmericaVote.gov, podrás averiguar que oportunidades hay disponibles en tu zona y que se requiere, y también cuanto te pagaran si te ofreces a prestar un servicio," informa Alexander.

Cada condado proporcionará la capacitación que los trabajadores puedan necesitar; consulte el sitio web electoral de su condado para obtener más detalles. Los sitios web sin fines de lucro como Power the Polls pueden ayudarlo a determinar si cumple los requisitos.

Además, la campaña Vet the Vote ha reclutado a 135,000 veteranos militares y sus familiares en todo el país para trabajar en las urnas este año.

Alexander afirma que en muchos estados se puede ser trabajador electoral a partir de los dieciséis años.

"Si estas en preparatoria, puedes ofrecerte como voluntario para trabajar en tu colegio electoral y cobrar," agrega Alexander. "Y si eres bilingüe, estas muy solicitado en los colegios electorales. Tenemos que garantizar el acceso bilingüe a los votantes que lo necesiten."

Se necesitan más de un millón de personas para dotar de personal a casi 100,000 centros de votación en todo el país, que atienden a decenas de millones de votantes. Los trabajadores electorales suelen instalar los colegios electorales, recibir a los votantes, verificar los registros de votantes, mostrar el uso del equipo de votación y emitir papeletas.
