Legisladores de NV considerarán cambios en su proceso electoral

Los legisladores de Nevada considerarán cambios a las leyes electorales del estado el próximo año. La mayoría de las propuestas son menores, como agregar pequeños costos de nominación para los candidatos presidenciales primarios y cambiar algunas regulaciones sobre las firmas de los votantes. Un proyecto de ley más divisivo permitiría a ex convictos convertirse en trabajadores electorales. La secretaria-tesorera del condado de Douglas, Amy Burgans, no tiene ningún problema con eso.

"Conozco a muchas personas que tienen un pasado del que no necesariamente están orgullosos, pero han cambiado su vida, por lo que no creo que debamos reprocharles lo que hicieron," expresó Burgans.

Este cambio también podría reforzar una fuerza laboral electoral que ha experimentado un éxodo de personas desde 2020. El personal dice que están luchando con cargas de trabajo insostenibles y un mayor acoso. Burgans menciona que agregar trabajadores a tiempo completo en las oficinas administrativas y ofrecer mejores salarios también podría resolver este problema.

Otras posibles actualizaciones incluyen permitir que los condados rurales creen departamentos electorales dedicados, en parte para resolver el problema de personal. Además, ampliar el acceso a materiales para votantes en otros idiomas y ajustar las reglas en torno a los comités legislativos interinos. Todos los proyectos de ley fueron aprobados por un grupo de legisladores, y la discusión sobre la votación se produce cuando la carrera presidencial de 2024 se intensifica. Burgans agrega que es fácil para la gente informarse mejor sobre el proceso electoral llamando a su oficina o convirtiéndose en trabajador electoral voluntario.

"Recomiendo encarecidamente a las personas que participen en el proceso y comprendan realmente lo que está sucediendo antes de estar dispuestas a difundir información errónea," insistió también Burgans.

La legislatura de Nevada comienza en febrero. Los legisladores seguirán proponiendo y editando proyectos de ley hasta entonces.
