Más de 3.6 millones de habitantes de Minnesota están registrados para votar este otoño. Pero si le preocupa que algo le haga rechazar su voto en las urnas, las autoridades dicen que llevar una factura personal podría salvar el día.

Los habitantes de Minnesota pueden comprobar su registro de votantes en línea para evitar cualquier contratiempo potencial antes de votar anticipadamente en persona o el día de las elecciones.

Pero el director de elecciones del condado de Olmsted, Luke Turner, dice que si usted se mudó recientemente y su ID no se ha actualizado con la nueva dirección, es probable que tenga que actualizar su registro al momento.

Parte de ese proceso incluye proporcionar un estado de cuenta actual con su nueva dirección.

"Puede ser una factura del teléfono, residuos sólidos, alcantarillado, electricidad, gas o agua, banca, crédito, alquiler o hipoteca," dice Turner.

También se aceptan documentos de inicio de servicio, así como declaraciones de cuotas estudiantiles actuales para votantes en edad universitaria. Pero todo lo que proporcione tiene que estar fechado dentro de los 30 días anteriores a las elecciones del 5 de noviembre.

Turner dice que, si bien intentar resolver este problema puede parecer intimidante, el personal electoral está capacitado para garantizar que se llegue a una solución. Agrega que estar preparado con los documentos lo hace aún más fácil.

"El riesgo que corre un votante si no está preparado es que lo rechacen," asegura Turner. "Ahora bien, eso no es definitivo (los jueces electorales le permitirán votar de todos modos), pero si corre el riesgo de tener que volver a casa y obtener esos documentos."

Y es posible que ni siquiera tengas que correr a casa para buscarlos, porque en estas situaciones no es necesario que sea únicamente un comprobante en papel.

Si puedes acceder al documento en tu teléfono, Turner dice que también se aceptan versiones digitales.
